October

I love October. It's my birthday month, it marks the start of fall, it's breast cancer awareness month, the menu changes and I want to bake more, and we have Halloween. Oh - and pumpkin pie....mmmmm...pie. I have a special place in my heart for pumpkin pie. This is my favorite time of year. It's this time of year that I wish I lived somewhere where I could actually experience the seasons. The changing color of leaves, the crisp air. No. I live in sunny ass California...where we have had record heat since October began. Apparently we got a "break" from the heat today, it only got up to 90 degrees. Whoop-de-doo Bazel. And it "might" rain Saturday...sprinkle is what it should say. Only enough to get the car even more dirty. But enough about that. Let's talk about the good stuff.

I love a good fall harvest. The new pie flavors, the warm stews. Flavors are so much more intense during this time, and I love it...being a Scorpio and all. I'm going to make sure to really enjoy this fall using all of my senses. Seeing, feeling, smelling, tasting. Love it.

27.5 days until my birthday! I'll be 27, young enough to still look forward to a birthday. Although I can't imagine dreading a birthday ever. I love celebrating another year. I love looking back and seeing how much I have grown since my last birthday. Age is just a number. I look forward to all I still have to learn and experience.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month. This August marked my mother's 6 year anniversary as a breast cancer survivor. After year 5 the chances of cancer returning drop. In honor of this, all my posts will be in pink. Next year, my mom, sister and I have vowed to do the Race for the Cure. We will get a team together and raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The race will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Keep it in mind because I'll be coming after you to join our team and donate! Click here for more info.

ACTUALLY - after typing that last sentence I decided to actually sign up for the race and start a team page! So it's official! I've been saying I'm gonna do this race for many years and never get around to signing up, so this time it's official. I will be sending out emails to ask to join the team and/or to donate. So keep an eye on your inbox! You can also click on the thermometer on the right to donate.

I'm so excited for this! I <3 October. :)

Late weekend update

It might be Wednesday already, but I'm still gonna post about my weekend.

First and foremost - A shout out to my brother Rob. HAPPY 22ND BIRTHDAY! He emailed me the following picture this moring. He's celebrating his b-day in NYC with 2 buddies.

[John Lennon pose]

*Sigh* Wish I was there...

On to the update!

Really, the only reason I still want to post is because G wanted me to post a pic of us at the Lakers game on Sunday. Nothing special, but I did win a Lakers makeover! Well...not officially, but it felt that way. G bought me my 1st official Lakers jersey, a t-shirt, and cool old-school shiny jacket! Yeah! I'll have to take a pic of my jacket because I can't find it anywhere on the net.

Too bad the Lakers decided it was time to lose again. Thanks babe for the makeover!

It was a very good weekend overall. Friday night I hung out with my friend A while G had a poker night with his buddies. A & I had dinner at the Yard House and then we headed to her place to watch the Darjeeling Limited. I liked the movie. Got slow at the end, but it was funny.

Saturday we waited for the Cable man all afternoon. We did get some cleaning done. He showed up at 4:55pm - 5min before his cutoff time. But now we have lame-ass Charter. No DirectTV for us. After that we headed out to my cousins house for a game night. We played true or crap game, Scene It!, and some Wii. My first time playing Wii and I absolutely loved it! I want one now. After that we headed to G's dad's house where they were having a b-day party for G's bro. Sadly, the party was over when we arrived and G's bro was gone. Oh well. We hung out for a bit and then headed home. That night I had insomnia. Not fun when your pregnant and tired! I didn't even fall asleep till somewhere in the 4am hour. It was horrible. The no-sleep, tired, hormonal, and pregnant combo finally took it's toll around 2am when I proceeded to to get emotional about everything and anything. But I have an awesome hubby that stayed awake with me and didn't freak out when I began crying for no good reason. [I heart you!]

Sunday, I was up early to meet a friend for brunch. Sucks - the whole time change really took it's toll on me. First, insomnia and then I lose and hour for no good reason. But brunch was great because it gave us a chance to catch up. We hadn't seen each other in months! After brunch I went home and took a nap and then we were off to the Lakers game.

Good times.

WEEKEND RUNDOWN [and some]

Sitting here at work, and then I realized I was 3 episodes behind on "The Hills." So here I am...catching up....watching them online. And yes, "The Hills" is my guilty pleasure. I love everything it doesn't add to my life.

In other news, my weekend was good. Friday consisted of a BBQ at my FIL's house with some awesome homemade tortillas. I totally stuffed my face. It was heaven. We then headed back to our place where we had some people over for an evening of Hookah. Good times as always.

Saturday I finally got up in cleaning mode, unfortunately, as I was finishing up the bathtub I realized it was broken. The water was not draining....turns out the plug was broken and wouldn't unplug. Of course our apartment owners are too cheap to pay for a plummer on the weekend. So no showers for us...at least not at our place. Ended heading to my moms to get ready for a couple of birthday parties we had to attend later that night. [Plummer showed up today....TUESDAY!! Can you believe that bullshit???] Saturday night was fun. B-day dinner at Wokcano for my cousin Cat [everyone must try the Geisha cocktail. So freakin' good!], followed by a b-day party for my cousin Cesar. Good times.

Sunday was a totally lazy "do nothing but lounge on the couch and watch football followed by a 'Felicity' dvd marathon" day. Yup...that sums up my day.

Alright...one more Hills episode to go!

Side Note - You all know how much I love Kanye West. My heart totally goes out to him. Losing someone so special is hard enough, but then it also being so close to the holidays....can't even try to imagine.

**Now that I'm done....totally feeling like this post has no depth. Maybe next time.

Conglomerate of stray thoughts

- Happy it's Friday
- not happy I'm broke till Thursday's paycheck
- i looked at a clock that said 3:55pm and got excited at the thought of going home only to realize that the clocked hadn't been changed for daylight savings.
- 1 more hour of hell
- staff meetings blow
- "now err body in the club gettin' tipz" - lol
- feeling the need to give a certain friend a much needed hug. Been a tough couple of days for my friend.
- There are some big ass birthday celebrations going on tomorrow night, but I can't seem to get into party mode. Just not feeling it....guess this being broke part is affecting my mood. Shouldn't have made such big payments so soon.
- 2 weeks to find an apartment...outlook not good.
- Must import my CDs to itunes. I never did this. Too much work. Now I import as I buy or burn. But all my old stuff is gathering dust in CD cases. Must take full advantage of 30 gigs.
- My favorite Italian Chef is pregnant! Congrats Giada....not like I know you or anything. But I puffy heart your food porn.
- haven't decided if I will go get Nigella Lawson's autograph tomorrow.
- hookah tonight! My place....be there.

what a day...what a day....

I started this post before lunch, and it is now 3:37pm. I can't seem to focus! I had a lot on my mind earlier and wrote a long as letter. I'm still debating whether the recipient is going to receive it. But not all is bad in the neighborhood.

I wanted to mention the fantastic pasta dish I made last night. It is a Nigella Lawson recipe from her new book "Nigella Express." I watched the video on borders.com of her making it and it looked so good and easy that I had to try it. Sure it enough it was way better than good and was super fast and easy. You can get the recipe here. I'll definitely be making this again. I think I'll also go out and buy her book. I'm still debating going to her book signing at Williams Sonoma [in Pasadena on Lake Ave] this Saturday. Not sure how bad I want to stand in that line. A part of me really wants to go because it was she, Nigella Lawson, that introduced me to food porn. Her's was the first cooking show I ever watched...and I've been hooked ever since. We'll see.

Last night we also watched two movies. Ratatouille and Blades of Glory. Although I feel asleep half way through Ratatouille [i blame the dinner wine] I did think it was cute and enjoyed what I watched. Then there's Blades of Glory. The Gayest non-gay movie ever! LOL It was funny. Good but not great.

And today is my father-in-laws birthday, so happy birthday to him! G's cooking dinner for the family tonight. Should be some good eating!

Things on my mind....

I have quite a few things on my mind. This makes it hard to blog because I can't focus on one thing. So in turn, this is going to become one of those random rambling posts.

- numero uno: i'm beginning to get stressed about where we're gonna live at the end of the month. Our apt. lease is up in 26 days and we have no idea what we're gonna do. I really want to move out and get a 2 bdrm. We are so not in a place yet to purchase a home. We can thank our own slacker selves for not getting career jobs after college. I guess it doesn't help that we live in one of the most expensive states either. So the aptartment hunting begins. I hate it. The other sucky thing is that we can't really afford to pay more in terms of rent. So that means we may be moving away from Pasadena. Sucks.

- number two: I really am so over trying to celebrate my birthday. Others want to go out and celebrate, but I don't. I don't feel like planning anything or having to entertain people. So guess what? My birthday has past. No more celebrating. [never thought i'd feel this way about it]

- tres: I never got a chance to blog about my weekend. Oh well. You can check out my Disneyland pics here. Nothing extra special.

- quatro: for the first time EVER I did not celebrate Halloween. Except for baking cupcakes. I did not have a costume, attend a party, hand out candy, trick-or-treat, nothing. Never has this happened. Well....except the one year in high school when I decided I was too cool trick-or-treat and rented scary movies. [yes I said high school. my friends and I looked young enough to get away with it. I even trick-or-treated 2 yrs ago on a rainy Halloween when no one cared who took the candy off their hands. good times] But I ended up handing out candy that year.

- there is no five

time to go home.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY...

TO ME!!!!

26 yrs ago today I was born in Glendale, CA. A total honeymoon baby.

I'll post my weekend recap tomorrow. Today we celebrate life. Another year to build memories on. Can't wait. I think this will be the best one yet. Just sayin'.

Dinner at my mom's today. She's making red posole for me. And she's baking her famous carrot cake. Can't wait! Oh yeah - and it's Heroes night and we get to watch it in HD.

Here are some pics of my day thus far!

Yeah, I'm a princess! hahahaa. My flowers from the hubs in the background.

1st gift from the hubs. Had been coveting this necklace.

Now that you're turning 26, what are you gonna do next?

I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND!

That's right ladies and gents, tomorrow the hubs and I are off to Disneyland! And the best part, we got 2 free tickets from a kind season pass holder! Please pray for our lungs & overall health. I'm hoping for minimal crowds due to the poor air quality and the fires still raging in the O.C [not to sound insensitive or anything]. At this point, we all wish the fires were out an rain would come to clean our air, but that ain't happening. So we'll make the best of it tomorrow. We were thisclose to canceling our visit, but we'll be alright.

I probably won't be posting anything until next week. I'll be working on Monday [my actual b-day] so I'll blog then. However, now that I know I can blog pictures from my cell phone thru my flickr account, rest assured that if anything catches my eye that must be blogged right away, I will.

So what else is on the birthday agenda?
Jack shit.

I still haven't decided how to celebrate with the rest of my peeps. They keep asking, but I'm not so into planning anything this year. I really don't want meet up for dinner either. Been done too much. Maybe I just really don't want to do anything. So h'm giving myself more time to decide. If I come up with something then we'll do it next Saturday....not this one. If anyone has any fun last minute ideas.....please share.

My weekend starts tomorrow....yes....i'm rubbing it in. So have a good one party people!

Life Gets A Bit More Normal

After a crazy stressful [not to mention sucky] summer, things finally seem to be falling in place. I currently feel like a huge load has been lifted off my shoulders. Recently, our finances have been the source of much anguish in our lives. But in my hands I have 3 big fat checks to pay off 3 big fat credit card balances. This my friends, is fanfuckentastic!

Fall is my favorite month. October is my favorite month. Good things always come in October [other than my birthday on the 29th ;o)], and I knew this would be a great month too. So far so good.

I really wanted to blog about my weekend yesterday, but alas, work has held me captive. Today is also YouTube tuesday. I have not forgotten. I will post a video before I leave work today. Since it looks like I will not have much time to blog, I'll give you the condensed version of my weekend. Actually, just the highlights.

Friday - went to see "Into the Wild" with my brother and Chris. This film is absolutely beautiful! It was such a great film. I cried more than expected [yes, I cry....a lot]. But seriously, I can't even find the perfect word to discribe this film and how it made me feel. So man things I wish I was and could be. Maybe that's why I cried like a baby. That or knowing that its a true story, thereby making it that much more tragic. And the message is so wonderful - "happiness is only real when shared." So true. I get emotional just thinking about it. And the soundtrack done solely by Eddie Vedder weaves the story together. Check it out!

Saturday - G & I had an amazing breakfast at the Raymond restaurant. It was a first [and definitely not last] visit for both of us. We had both heard rave reviews and finally made it out. It ended up being quite an indulgence as the prices are on the higher end, but boy was it worth it. I had started with an English scone that was perfect and fresh out the oven. I also ordered the Chicken Hash [with onions, mushroom and bacon, two poached eggs ,and rosemary hollandaise sauce]. Everything was bursting with flavor. The hollandaise sauce was perfection. The best I've tasted, and this is one of the hardest sauces to master. All entrees are accompanied with country potatoes and toast that I didn't even touched because I was stuffed [but G said it was really good] and a slice of pineapple.G ordered the Lobester Omelet [with sautéed mushrooms, diced tomatoes and gruyere cheese] that was heaven. This was quite a leap for G to order seafood for breakfast, but he said it was the best breakfast he's ever had.
We definitely plan to head back. Although, maybe when we're not so strapped for cash. :)

So those were the highlights. Let's hope I get some more down time at work and can post more this week. Happy October everyone!
