Love is in the air

G & I have never been big on valentine's day celebrations....oh who am I kidding. We have always celebrated! He would even drive down to San Diego no matter what day of the week it fell on just to bring me flowers and take me to diner. *swoon* But once we got married we stopped making such a big deal. i.e. no plans for tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

My friend Diana had this cool survey on her blog. I'm bored at work so I'll fill it out.

1. Where/how did you meet?
G & I met in high school. Freshman year we had English and History together. I actually didn't care for him when I met him. I later found out he was in love with me. I eventually got to know him better and started liking him. He apparently was over me. :( Sadness. I know. It wasn't till the beginning of our Sophmore year that my BFF at the time set us up. We started hanging out at lunch every day. One November day, at lunch, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said I would think about it. LOL. I got so much shit from my friends for saying that. So during our last period I was going to Tennis practice and he was going to Soccer practice and I yelled out his name, he turned around, and I said, "Yes!" He immediately knew what I meant and ran over to hug me. Cheesey!

2. How long have you known each other?
13.5 years

3. How long after you met did you start dating?
1 year

4. How long did you date before you were engaged?
9 years!

5. How long was your engagement?
1 year.

*Our 2 good friends came with us on this "Birthday" trip to NYC and made this pic for us.

6. How long have you been married?
2 years 2 months 19 days

7. What is your anniversary?
November 25th - The day we started dating. 10 years later, to the day, we got married. So our dating and wedding anniversary are the same day.

More cheese!

Engaged 11/4/05 - proposed atop the Empire State Building

8. How many people came to your wedding reception?

About 225. Too many, but we both have big ass families.

9. What kind of cake did you serve?

Chocolate with whipped cream I think. It was really good.

10. Where was your wedding?

Church - St. Elizabeth in Altadena
Reception - La CaƱada Country Club

11. What did you serve for the meal?
Chicken is what we could afford. It was good though.

12. How many people were in your bridal party?
A crap load.

13. Are you still friends with them all?

Of course!

14. Did your spouse cry during the ceremony?
Yes! He choked up during our vows! I was the one expected to cry and I didn't! I was too happy and relaxed to cry.

15. Most special moment of your wedding day?
Heading back to our wedding suite. We were finally married. Our first night together as husband and wife.

16. Any funny moments?
This isn't so much as funny as it is freakin' awesome. G is a huge Pearl Jam fan. So the DJ played "Even Flow" and our entire wedding party & friends & family danced in a huge mosh pit singing every word out loud. Funnest memory of the night.

17. Any big disasters?
Of course. But I had a great day-of wedding planner that took care of things. It just sucks that I people who you think want the best for you make you feel like shit on your wedding day.

18. Where did you go on your honeymoon?
ITALY! Gawd I want to go back. Florence to a teeny Tuscan B&B to Venice to Rome.

*Florence - our favorite city.

19. How long were you gone?

13 days. Definitely not enough.

20. If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change?
Smaller more intimate.

21. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
Right. Use to be the left but these days its the right.

22. What size is your bed?
Cal King. We had a Full the first 1.5 yrs.

23. Greatest strength as a couple?
We are BFFs. We can talk about anything and everything.

24. Greatest challenge as a couple?

We are both hot heads with strong opinions.

25. Who literally pays the bills?
I do. And I'm kinda over it now.

26. What is your song?
It is now the song with first danced to.

27. What did you dance your first dance to?

John Legend - Stay with You

28. Describe your wedding dress.
Jasmine Couture

29. What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding?

Nope

When life hands you lemons...

..you make lemonade...right? Well that's exactly what G and I have done. Except it's more like we have made our own lemon...little lemon....little as in baby lemon. Are you catching my drift? Of course most of those who are related to us already knew this. But my blog has taking a toll because of this. I wasn't ready to share with the world that come August we will be parents. But I am now.

It's been a tough month. I've been on bed rest for a little over a month. I was without internet and nothing special to blog about. All I kept thinking about was if this baby was gonna stick. But now that we know it is sticking and growing, and that I will soon return to work - I can return to my regular blogging duties.

I won't write out a long post about our journey thus far. That's what the baby blog is for. So if you're interested in reading about that, head on over to Making Baby Geefunk and read all about it.

Thanks to those that stuck around and have been an assome support system to us. We greatly appreciate it!!

Note: as far as work goes...i hope to return some time at the end of next week. So don't expect much blogging till then. Cross your fingers. :)

...and I'm gonna live my life...

A day in my life...a typical weekday....this is me:

wake up sometime around 6:40am
watch Good Day LA in bed till about 7:20am
feed beta
make it out the door before 8am
pick up Cat and get coffee at SB
check my email
open Twitter
do some work
catch up on blogs
pay my bills online
head to lunch at my moms
blog at work
think about doing some work
look at my message light, but don't check messages
waste time on the internet
get dinner ideas
go home between 4pm - 5pm
think about dinner
to cook or not to cook...that is the question
Maybe swing by Trader Joe's for last minute ingredients
get mail
watch some news
start cooking
eat
do dishes
maybe watch a rental or read
shower
watch tv in bed or read
sleep

Sometimes we have fun at work. You know....real life tertris..."smoking" breaks out on our patio, spying on building evictions, buying unnecessary supplies at office max, etc. But really it's just boring. Super. I get a lot of personal stuff done so it works out. And I use to go into work at 7am...now i just get there sometime before 8am.

Once home, we might have my brother over and/or a cousin or friend. At least once a week we go to my moms for dinner. We always have "Heroes Mondays" at our place. People come over to eat and play some games before the show. We always have a blockbuster movie.

Weekdays are low key and i like it. G & I have been known to overdose on wine on weeknights and play monopoly till late at night. I'm scared to think how much this is going to change once there are kids in the picture.

What's going on in my hood

I'm having trouble getting together this post for the weekend rundown. There is just so much info and so many pictures and so little time. But, If I wait any longer then this post will never make it up. So here's a quickie on some random happenings.

Last night my cousin Chris brought over the new Scene It game. We played a few games before Heroes and it was soooo much fun! This game is awesome. Especially fun with the new special buzzers it comes with. Really adds to the game. I sucked so bad. I came in 3rd the first game and 4th the second game. Sucks. It sucks more when you think you're so good with movie trivia and your really not.

Only one more episode of Heroes left! Damn writers strike. I mean more power to them, but I hate having shows cut off before their time.

I also want to write up a little something about our first anniversary Sunday. We didn't have plans since G didn't know he'd have the day off until earlier that week. He later told me he had tried to get us tickets to go see "Wicked" but there weren't any non $200 tickets. Sp we started the day with brunch at the Twin Palms in Old Town. We were lucky to get a table without reservations. *Tip: Go early if you don't have reservations! Later on there are too many huge parties. So brunch was of course freakin good! They have the best food.

Some how, for the rest of the afternoon we ended up tv shopping. We're gonna be losing our borrowed tv [we were storing his dad's huge tv] so we need to buy our own now. We're looking at a 36" - 42" LCD HD TV. And we don't want to spend over $1300. Any suggestions?

Later in the evening we went for our usual anniversary dinner at Cafe Santorini [back in Old Town]. We've been coming to this restaurant for our anniversary for like 6 or 7 years now. We love this place and have endured the changing menu. It started off more Greek, then turned Mediterranean and now it seems to be more Italian/Mediterranean. But no matter what it's always great. And we always order at least one of the daily specials. They never disappointed. I have pictures and wanted to get more detailed on our meal, but I'm short on time now.

We also wanted to watch a movie, but the times were conflicting with our dinner plans. We ended up renting a movie. After wandering a tiny blockbuster for 30 min we finally agreed to rent "Evening." It was good....not great. We paired this movie up with some year old wedding cake and a glass of the same prosecco we toasted with at our wedding. I was so scared to try the cake, but it was actually good. It had 4 layers and the inner 2 layers were very good. The outter 2 were a bit on the too moist side. But the frosting withstood time and was the exact same texture. It was deelish! I have pics....but of course no time to post. Tomorrow!

All in all it was a great low-key anniversary. I loved that it was based around food.

That's it for now. Tomorrow I'll provide links to pictures. Which I think I'm gonna have to pay up and upgrade to flickr pro so i can continue to upload my hundreds of pictures. *Sigh*

Happy not going shopping day!!

Taking a quick minute for a quick post. My mac just picked up a wireless signal at home and I'm taking advantage!!!

Still stuffed from all the great food last night. The roasted garlic mash potatoes [with marscapone cheese] where a huge hit! G & I were very proud. I also ended up making the stuffing [casserole style] which must've turned out great too because there was non left over! After we all dined we enjoyed a little hookah. It was great to hang out with so many cousins, aunts, and uncles. It was a great thanksgiving overall. We even had an announcement that one of my cousins will be having a new addition to the family in about 7-8 months! Yay! Congrats to them. They have a beautiful little girl who is about to celebrate her first birthday!

As for today, as my title states...I will not be doing any shopping. I absolutely hate Christmas shopping and would never start on a day like this. After a bit of cleaning at home I'll be heading over to my friend A's house to hang out for a while. Eat, drink, and talk about our book club read.

Hope everyone continues to have a nice & safe thanksgiving weekend. I'll post pictures on Monday.

OH YEAH! A side note since i'll most likely not post until Monday. Tomorrow we have a quinceanera, and then Sunday is our 1 year wedding anniversary! It also marks 11 years of dating. But I guess we aren't dating anymore so I should stop counting? Maybe we can call it Anniversary 10.1 [10yrs dating 1yr married]. :-p I don't know. But I cannot believe a year has already gone by. Crazy how time flies. This year has been filled with many many ups & downs, but I could not imagine sharing it all with anyone but the one person who matters most to me, my husband Gerardo. I love you babe! Thanks for an amazing year filled with many memories. I don't believe the honeymoon is over....the good part is just beginning. Looking forward to a lifetime with you. :-x

August in Review

I just realized it's been over a week since my last post. My apologies. But I promise...I have a good excuse.

August 2007 hasn't been the best month for me. Well...for me and the hubby. This month has been filled with extreme highs and extreme lows. I don't need to get into everything, but since this is my space....my place to post my thoughts...I will share now. I was afraid of opening myself up so much to the public and being left vulnerable. But now that things are said and done I can post a piece of me that's a bit more personal.

So here's the abridged version.

In mid July, G and I found out we would soon be becoming 3. I was pregnant. Fast forward to my first prenatal appt. in August. We come to find out I was miscarrying. There hadn't been much growth and no baby could be detected in the ultrasound. In the end this came to be medically referred to as a blighted ovum. The pregnancy stopped around the 3rd or 4th week. But G & I spent 8 weeks living life like I was pregnant. We bought all the books, began to look forward to our new future, and even told a few close relatives and friends. It was a big blow. We were suddenly vaulted from being extremely happy to the extreme sadness associated with grieving a loss. The last 3 weeks have been emotionally draining. From more blood tests and doctors appt's to figure out of it was a loss, to finally going to the hospital [this Monday at what would have been 10 weeks of pregnancy] and having outpatient surgery to clean out my uterus. Life threw us a curve ball when I unexpectedly became pregnant. But we embraced it like a planned pregnancy. And then the 2nd curve ball....taking everything away.

Such a loss is something you have to go thru to know just how hard it is. We spent the month secretly grieving and putting on a happy face to the rest of the world. I constantly wanted to post about all this. So I ended up making a private blog that I named baby Geefunk. This blog has become my therapy. The blog starts at the beginning and I continue to update it. Feel free to browse some of my posts if you'd like more in depth details as to what has happened.

At this point I am only hoping for an easier September. One filled with more good times than bad times. I thought posting would be a good idea since I have found that blogs that post about such events have really helped me thru. So I can only hope to someday help someone else that is going through the same thing. It's tough...and sometimes it's too much to get through on your own. Everything that has happened to date has thrown my head for a loop and I've felt like I've been having an out of body experience. I can't seem to focus on much these days. I'm really hoping that September brings m brain back and I can get my shit together again.

So a day early, I raise my glass to September. Bring me a good month. I need a break.
