Today I went to my first Mommy Movie Monday at the Krikorian Theater in Old Town Monrovia. The lights aren't completely turned off, the sounds is turned down just a notch, and babies and young toddlers are free to roam. Andy and I were joined by Diana and her sweet daughter Lara. The movie was at 10am and I was very sleep deprived, but after some coffee and just plain excitement of returning to the movies woke me up. The movie of the week was Ghost Town. It was very funny and touching. One of the few movies that has made me laugh out loud. Then it got sad, and I cried...thank gawd Diana was also on the verge of tears. Didn't feel so stupid.
Our kids were little angels. Even Lara, who Diana says usually has to be chased around, just sat close by and kept quiet for the most part. Andy woke up halfway thru and ate and starred at the giant people. He was so amused by the giant screen. I fear his love of television is growing.
After the movie we grabed lunch at a sushi restaurant near by named Mikomi. Really good sushi at a decent price [pricer than my fav spot Ichima].
Every time I hang out in Old Town Monrovia I love it more and more. It's so quaint and far from the over-crowded streets of Old Town Pasadena [my 1st home]. The best part is the free parking! 90 minutes on the street, and sections of 3 hour and 8 hour parking in the lots located on the side streets. My goal is to make it to the Monrovia Family Festival and Farmer's Market that happens every Friday from 5pm to 9pm. I have a wedding to attend this Friday, but hopefully next Friday will work.
It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again next week! Thanks Diana!
Happy 1st day of Fall

Updates
A quick list of what's been happening since I haven't blogged in forever.
- We're stilling settling into our new apartment. Boxes still sitting around, but not too many left.
- Been sleeping on our assome mattress for almost a week now and it's so perfect. We love it. A cal king is a heavenly thing when both G and I need some extra space. Although I am having trouble finding a simple white bed skirt. At least in store. May just have to order it online.
- Maternity leave is cool. I have tons of time to go looking for all these things we still need. I also have time to go relax at my cousin's pool and do daytime stuff. I was always so envious of everyone that was always out and about on weekdays. I even get to catch up on movies by going to matinee shows! OMG and sleep! I get to sleep in. Not much of a napper these days, but it's nice to know I can. And I hardly sleep at night so I totally sleep in.
- I'm so boring. I have absolutely nothing interesting to say.
- I did LOVE Dark Knight. Best movie of the summer by far. Best movie of the year I think. It was long but I was glad it was. Wouldn't have been right to edit any of that out.
- I was at the pool on Tuesday and I think I got a little sun burnt becasue I have been very itchy since last night. Especially my poor belly that was already itchy. It was the first time my tiger belly had been exposed.
- I just told G that I have nothing interesting to say on here and he told me to talk about him.
- I have nothing interesting to say.
- He said I should have sports section. Yeah....maybe that would've worked when I actually kept up with sports. Not these days.
- I splurged today and got my eyebrows waxed at the Anastasia counter in Nordstroms at the Santa Anita mall. It was good, but not great. May be my eyebrows, but when I go thome and looked in the mirror there were quite a bit of hairs that had to go. So I cleaned it up myself. This girl at the counter is good, she does my friend A's eyebrows and they always look great, but it just didn't work with me. Still glad someone else did it and not me. I had been letting them grow out for a month so that I could wax them before baby G came.
- Just placed an order on babiesrus.com and used our 10% off completion coupon. Didn't even dent the total. Babies ARE expensive.
- It is now almost midnight. I should go to bed.
- Oh yeah...I miss baking. I should bake tomorrow.

WEEKEND RUNDOWN
I haven't done a real blog post in FOREVER! So let's get to it before I run out of time since it was a long holiday weekend.
FRIDAY
Started my day at the mall shopping for a dress for my baby shower on Saturday and for gifts for my shower hostesses. After that I headed to my moms where we would be carpooling to Brookside Park over by the Rose Bowl [our usual 4th of July spot]. Park was pretty relaxing as it wasn't too hot. Lots of food. Fireworks were not as good as last year. And it didn't help that we happened to pick a spot right behind a tree that would block most of the fireworks show. Lame. Unfortunately G had to work all day so he missed all festivities. Sucks.
SATURDAY
Shower day! G and I headed off to Pasadena to kill some time before our shower at my parents house. We had lunch at Chipotle, stopped at target for gift bags and other misc. items, and then G came with me to get a mani-pedi. I went to a new place on Lake Ave and Union and I loved it! They give an awesome massage and do a great job for a good price. I hear they do great eyebrow waxing too. Might try it before I have this kid.
After giving G's mom a ride from work we headed over to our shower. There was quite a bit of people already there. It was decorated soooo cute! It matched our Safari theme for our nursery. There was a lot of green and brown which my sister described as our wedding theme but for baby. So true. I love that they used these colors since I'm not much of a blue fan. We had a great time and got a lot of good loot. I'll have a full re-cap on my Baby Blog tomorrow. I don't have the pictures from our photographer yet [my brother and his fancy camera].
Quick shout-outs:
Nancy - Thank you for planning an beautiful shower for us! It was perfect in every way.
Vanessa - Thank you for taking the time [while pregnant and managing a toddler] to pick and mail out our invites. It means a lot that you would help out like this.
Angelica - Thanks for the bangin' ass cake! Serio. Can't stop thinking about it. And G thanks you for his UCLA balls. So cute!
Jackie - Thank you for providing the yummy favors! They were totally cute and a great idea. I love edible favors.
Ladies, it just means so much to me that your would all come together for me!
As we speak, the loot is being delivered to our home. Can't wait to get all unpacked and start setting up the nursery!
SUNDAY
After having breakfast at my mom's and wishing Vanessa farewell, G and I headed off to Macy's to check out their sale on mattresses. We went with the intention of buying a queen size cheaper end mattress. We came out with a Cal King pricey mattress! It was one of those "go big or go home" moments. We were way overdue for a new mattress set. How over due? We had been sleeping in my college bed....my full-size bed from Ikea. So yeah....it was over due. Especially with a baby coming soon. we didn't want nor need the extra expense, but this is an investment after all [or at least thats what the sales guy got us to believe]. This is the mattress set we got and it was discounted well over 50%. This really is Macy's biggest sale.
After a quick lunch at Tops, we headed back home to sleep off the shock of our gigantic purchase. we had wanted to catch a movie but the times didn't work with us. We also had plans to work on the unpacking, but my nap went long [which is great since I hardly sleep at night now]. So we picked up chinese for a late dinner [so yeah...we eat out a lot....lately...we haven't unpacked our kitchen gear] and watched The Savages. Good sad movie.

Step on a crack break your momma's back
Not to beat a dead horse, but WTF LAKERS:?????
'nough said.
I'm really beginning to think that it's mine and G's fault that they lost. We have watched every single game at our apartment [along with the usual suspects of Rob, Chris, Mike, and sometimes Ryan & Hector] except for 3 games. What 3 games? The 3 these bitches have lost! [The one they lost to San Antonio - yeah we were at a Dodger game]. It really blows that our Lamaze class is on Thursday, but what can we do? For $90 I ain't skipping!
Speaking of Lamaze, G is really enjoying it. He feels he's learning a lot which is good since this class was for him more than me. He is gonna be my coach after all. But this is also making me consider a natural birth. AKA drug FREE. I know....I'm crazy....but they make it sound so easy! We'll see because I'm totally not opposed to drugs. I'm all for it! I'll elaborate more on this on my baby blog.
Today we get a gift from my MIL. She is giving us a fat check to use on baby gear. Anything we want. This money is practically spent already. I want to get the Safari bedding from Baby Gap [although just as I was gonna order it they sold out, but I know they'll get more] and a Glider w/matching ottoman from Target. Can't wait! We don't have much baby stuff yet. Sorta just been waiting for our showers.
Nothing special planned for the weekend. Kids b-day party tomorrow and then Sunday we plan to catch a matinée showing of The Happening and then the Laker game.
Have a good one!
And happy Friday the 13th. ;)

4x4
We're now heading home to enjoy our donuts and watch "Sweeney Todd". Maybe we'll also watch "Charlie Wilson's War" if I don't pass out. And don't worry folks. I have Krispy Kreme once a year...if I'm lucky. I promise Baby G won't come out obese.

WEEKEND RUNDOWN
FRIDAY
On Friday I mentioned my stomach pains. By lunch time, that day, I was starving. I ate lots and felt much better the rest of the day. I don't know why I was having pains. But I had told my boss that I'd be taking a half day so I didn't go back to work. After lunch at Domenico's [on Washington Blvd] G and I began my hunt for an outfit for Saturday. We headed to Paseo as I had seen online that Motherhood Maternity had cute cheap dresses. But we quickly discovered the store is no longer there. Even though the website still says it is.
G took advantage of the early afternoon and the fact that we were right outside a movie theater and convinced me to see Iron Man. Truthfully, I didn't need much convincing. I really wanted to see this movie too. We both really enjoyed the movie. Definitely one of the best comic book movies so far [although I'll admit to enjoying the X-men movies]. And I luv Robert Downey Jr. His sarcasm is great.....just like mine. :-p
After the movie we headed to Old Navy to continue my search. Luckily Old Navy came thru this time and I was able to find a complete outfit! Here's what I got:
I wore a black short sleeved cardigan over the dress and topped it with a long silver necklace from H&M. G even picked out my shoes! I'm wearing the sandals again today. I love them...now...wasn't too sure at time of purchase.
After Old Navy we had a sushi dinner at Ichima. We then headed to Old Town to get Alejandra's gift [H&M gift card and the first 2 Gossip Girl Books]. Of course I had to get frozen yogurt at 21 Choices. I had the Mango Pineapple with chopped in fresh strawberries and blackberries. The yogurt tasted just like Malibu Rum! Yummy.SATURDAY
I blogged a short recap with a pic from the confirmation. It was all lovely. Church was followed by a family dinner at my parent's home. Yummy red or white posole followed by a super chocolatey chocolate cake topped with fresh strawberries.
Here's a pic of myself with the my Confirmanti and her family. I look so short!Oh! I did not end up watching the boxing match. But I heard it was pretty lame. Oscar shoulda TKO'd him.
SUNDAY
And of course lazy Sunday. In short, here's what I did.
- Had cereal with oatmeal for breakfast
- Watched TV
- Baked Oatmeal Cookies
- G came home with carne asada burritos
- Watched the Laker game
- TV
- G left to play a basketball game
- Brought home a so not even healthy dinner of McD's. So was craving the cheeseburger again.
- Watched bootleg copy of "Under the Same Moon" that G's dad had. Totally awesome copy! Loved it! Cried my eyes out.
- Watched Brothers & Sisters in bed.
Lazy right! I love lazy days. And now I'm too lazy to add links and proof read. :)

WEEKEND RUNDOWN
This weekend was pretty chill. Friday we had dinner at my parents house [yummy sopes!] and then had "the guys" over for a Wii game night. Our friend Mike brought over his Wii and we played bowling, tennis, and golf. Wii is so much damn fun. I want one so bad, but we really can't afford it right now. I thought about adding it to our baby registry, but I got the stink eye from G. :( I was able to stay up till 12am! I guess it was because I was busy, otherwise I tend to crash way earlier.
Saturday I was all alone as G had to work 8-5pm. I made myself the most bangin' french toast using Trader Joe's Cinnamon Swirl Bread. OMG! Soooo good! Everyone must try this sometime. I had 2 giant pieces. i was only missing some fresh strawberries and powdered sugar to top it with! MMmmmmm...sugar. After watching some Food Network TV, I got my lazy ass up to get ready for the Festival of Books @ UCLA. I went with A and her mom. After struggling thru bad LA traffic, we finally made it
around 2:30pm. Might've been closer to 3pm. But it was so damn hot on Saturday that by 4:30pm we were done! The festival was cool. Tons and Tons of tents with all kinds of books. Each tent has a specific topic. We even got a free English Qur'an, study bible, and Buddhism guides. :) I'm all about learning new things.
I did buy a couple of books, however, both A and I thought there would be way more discounts on books. Most stuff was full price unless you went to a specialty tent that was selling random books for about half off. Any how, I bought the cutest children's book - "Abuelita Full of Life/Abuelita Llena de Vida" by Amy Costales. It is a bilingual book and it is beautifully illustrated. This one was full price, but the author was there and she signed the book. She was totally cool too. She told me the stories behind her books. She has 2 other books and is working on her 4th. I plan to get her other book "Hello Night, Hola Noche."
I am starting to build our baby library. I have tons of books, but my focus is totally shifting on to our baby. I want him to have all the classics that I grew up reading, plus some new ones. Especially these bilingual books, since we plan on teaching him Spanish first and then English.
At one of the discount tents where all paperbacks were $7.50 I bought 2 books I've been wanting to read. "Paula" by Isabel Allende and "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. I wanted to and should have bought more, but my stack of books to read is getting too high.
That night we had a carne asada dinner at my father-in-law's house. Good times.
Sunday G worked till 1pm. I made more french toast [:))] and had a lazy afternoon. G and I had a late lunch at Tops. It was so hot! We drove by a few perspective apartments. I really liked one of them. Really nice, gated, and even though it's 3 stories it has an elevator [Big plus with a baby], and I think it's 11oos q ft. But we would also have to pay around $275 more per month for this place. Rent is not cheap in Pasadena! We want to move into a 2 bedroom before baby arrives. And a house is so not an option for us right now. Sad, but true.
We topped of the day by not making it to the 5pm mass and instead making some crab ceviche for dinner. It was too hot to make hot food. I also made myself some frozen virgin strawberry margaritas. So good! We watched A Scanner Darkly on Cinemax OnDemand. Weird movie, but interesting.
Nice weekend overall.
So is everyone ready for the Lakers to make their sweep today?!? Bring out the brooms!

BTW
I finally saw No Country For Old Men and it was not the BEST movie of the year. There Will Be Blood is sooooo much better. I'll even take Into the Wild and Across the Universe any day. Won't be a fan.
Also saw Beowulf and kinda enjoyed it. I bet it was cool in IMAX.
And tonight we are going to see one of those free screening [you know, you see them outside movie theaters hounding people to see a free movie]. The movie is called Body of Lies and it stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crow, and it is directed by Ridley Scott. I think that's enough to say we won't be disappointed. I'll post a review tomorrow.

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard
Yeah - give the Oscar to Daniel Day-Lewis.....like now. There Will Be Blood was a great film. I can't believe it was the first film I had seen this year!!! So sad. I don't get out much these days. Hoping that'll change so that I can have more to blog about!
I little update on the baby front [since I only talk about it on my baby blog] - everything is going great. I'm almost 17 weeks [4 months] and you can totally tell I'm pregnant now. I mean, I'm not huge or anything, but I don't just look fat anymore. :) I can't believe how fast this is all going by. As far as the sex of this baby, well....we haven't scheduled that appointment yet, but I think we will be finding out. So i'll make sure to post when we do. Probably some time next month.

In Love...
...with my new lip gloss!! It's the Mentha Lip Tint No.1136 from Co Bigelow Apothecaries - sold at Bath & Body Works. My sister gave me one and I was instantly hooked! I am weary of new lip gloss since they usually just dry out my lips. But this is the best of
both all 3 worlds! Not only does it moisturize my lips, but it also has a soft pink tint that is perfect for all day wear and not too noticeable. AND on top of that it's mint-infused for fresh breath! I have to stop myself from licking it off. And when it does wear off, my lips don't chap or flake!!! This is the best shit ever! So it sells for $7.50 and this weekend B&BW had it on sale for $2!!!! So I bought 4 more! Had to stock up. The crazy part is that ever since I got this I have not used my Carmex once [except before bed]!
I had a pretty good weekend. The highlight [sadly] was yesterdays brunch at the Cheesecake Factory with G. My boss gave me a $50 gift card to this joint. Sadly, I couldn't eat my breakfast because it instantly gave me heartburn. So I had the poached eggs that it was topped with [cleaned off the sauce] potatoes and G's english muffin. We then had the Kahlua Cocoa Coffee Cheesecake. It was soooo damn good. I really enjoyed it. I was thisclose to regretting my pick because the Godiva Cheesecake looked so good, but my pick did not disappoint. The Kahlua Cocoa Coffee Cheesecake had a bottom layers of rich brownie, then Kahlua Cheesecake, followed buy creamy chocolate mousse and Chocolate Ganache. I was afraid it would be too rich, but it so wasn't. It was a real treat since we rarely indulge in dessert.
Last night we were at my parent's house [i seem to be spending A LOT of time there] and my brother connected his laptop to the TV and we proceeded to watch an illegal version of the movie Gone Baby, Gone from the internet. It was very high quality - it looked damn good on the HD tv set. The reason I am confessing to watching movies online illegally is because this movie was so good, we all felt like mailing Ben Affleck our $10. I felt guilty. :(

Stewie: What's that? Oh yes, yes. I love crack. I'm absolutely coo-coo for crack!

Tonight, G & I are heading out to watching my cousin Mariela's high school soccer game over at Duarte High School. She has 2 evening games coming up and really wanted us to check her out. I might try to make it tomorrow too [same place @ 5pm].
Happy Hump Day!

what a day...what a day....

Last night we also watched two movies. Ratatouille and Blades of Glory. Although I feel asleep half way through Ratatouille [i blame the dinner wine] I did think it was cute and enjoyed what I watched. Then there's Blades of Glory. The Gayest non-gay movie ever! LOL It was funny. Good but not great.

WEEKEND RUNDOWN
Happy Monday! It's so cool and gloomy outside today....i love it!
I had a lovely weekend. It didn't start out so promising, but it all turned around by Saturday evening.
FRIDAY
My sister came over to help me finish the 15ñera invites I was working on for my sister-in-law. My sister took off around midnight and I carried on until about 1am. I finally finished and passed out at about 1:30am. Stupid me forgot to take picks of my hard work. I guess I'll have to wait till we get our invite in the mail. I'll post picks then.
SATURDAY
I made it out of bed around 9:30am, showered and headed out to drop off the invites. I then went home to clean up the mess from the night before. Paper and ribbon bits were scattered all over our carpet. The hubs took off to work around 1:45pm. His first time closing in a long time. That left me with a lonely unplanned evening. I don't know why I didnt make plans knowing he'd be gone. Around 4:30pm I finally texted my brother to see what he was up to and we [including my cousin chris] ended up going to the movies to see "Across the Universe."
This film was sooooo good! I loved every minute of it. I want to see it over and over. The way the Beatles songs were so masterfully worked into the script was genius. 18 Beatles songs are featured in the film [so yes...this is a musical]. The 1960's anti-war, love, sex, and rock & roll backdrop made each song shine. I can't wait for this DVD.
After the film, we were all feeling in need a some serous smoking and meditation with more Beatles music. My brother headed home to pick up his hookah and then came over with a few other peeps. Great times were had with lots of smoking and drinking. I think I literally passed out at 2:30am. I couldn't stay awake any longer. The hubs didn't even make it to bed till 4am!!
SUNDAY
G had the day off so we decided to just stay in and lounge all day. We hadn't done that since we first got married [like it was that long ago]. So we stayed i n bed all day and watched football, read, ate, napped, etc. Good times. :-p
Also, I've learned my cousin Christy had baby, Noah, on Sunday afternoon. She had a really long and hard labor, but baby and mom are doing very well. Say hi to the newest member of the Gonzalez Clan! Congrats Christy & Jeremy!

Life Gets A Bit More Normal
After a crazy stressful [not to mention sucky] summer, things finally seem to be falling in place. I currently feel like a huge load has been lifted off my shoulders. Recently, our finances have been the source of much anguish in our lives. But in my hands I have 3 big fat checks to pay off 3 big fat credit card balances. This my friends, is fanfuckentastic!
Fall is my favorite month. October is my favorite month. Good things always come in October [other than my birthday on the 29th ;o)], and I knew this would be a great month too. So far so good.
I really wanted to blog about my weekend yesterday, but alas, work has held me captive. Today is also YouTube tuesday. I have not forgotten. I will post a video before I leave work today. Since it looks like I will not have much time to blog, I'll give you the condensed version of my weekend. Actually, just the highlights.

We definitely plan to head back. Although, maybe when we're not so strapped for cash. :)
So those were the highlights. Let's hope I get some more down time at work and can post more this week. Happy October everyone!

Inspired
Ever feel so - wow - I can't even think of the right words. Let's try again. I just finished watching the movie History Boys and boy do I feel inadequately prepared to ever call myself a Historian.
Let me give you some background. I majored in History. My Bachelors degree is in History. Sure, I focused on U.S. and Mexico's history, but sometimes I feel so unprepared to even begin to think about some day becoming a some-what historian (yes I know i need another 5-7 yrs of schooling). These kids in the movie are beyond smart. I do not want to compare myself, wouldn't even be possible, but the level of history that this kids have learned is beyond me! Just to know that there are people out there that are this smart.....man.....i have no chance. My state university education cannot stand up to the caliber of some of the knowledge private school kids come out with (but not limited to private schools, of course).
I love history. It is my passion. I left the business program to pursue my passion. Something that I have slowly forgotten in the 3 years since I received my degree. Where am I? I ask myself this question almost everyday. I am working in accounting [I hate & suck at math] not even doing "real" accounting work [thank gawd because I failed accounting 3 times]. I sit at a desk and do an average of 2 hours of work, Monday thru Friday, and the rest of the time is spent broadening my knowledge of useless mine numbing facts via the internet. Maybe I should have stuck with my Computer Information Systems major. No.....all I can think about is how bad I want to return to school. I want a masters....a PhD.....I want it all. But am I too late? Sometimes I feel like everything I learned has been filed away in my brain in a key less safe. If I go back to school now, will I be behind? Do I have anything left I can offer to the scholarship? I should....since history is constantly being made.
Fuck it. The phrase of the last couple of months. Fuck it. I'm gonna do it. You can quote me on that. I'm tired of downing myself and making myself feel inadequate. Yes, there are a hell of a lot smarter people out there. But I can and will persevere.
The first step is the hardest, and boy do I hate college applications. So here we go. Guess I better look for some free money too. Dang it sucks to be living paycheck to paycheck!

Oh yeah....the movie. They where so effing smart it inspired me. I was mesmerized. I wanted to be them. I want to ace my A-Levels and pass the test to get into Cambridge. Not really, but close enough. Unfortunately, I don't think my hubby was as inspired. Well....maybe...inspired to take a nap. :-p
