In a nutshell: It was a blast!
It's so great to get out of the city and appreciate our natural surroundings. Yosemite National Park is beautiful and breath taking. It was an easy drive up - only took us about 5 hours. The weather was cold, but beautiful. We did get rain the last 2 days.
Thursday:
We got in Thursday afternoon. We check in and got our camp set up and made dinner and just hung out at our camp. We stayed at the Housekeeping Camp located in Curry Village. Despite the name there is no housekeeping available. The room are basically 3 concrete walls with a sturdy tarp roof and a tarp curtain type door. And you get bunk beds and a double bed. You have a picnic table and a fire pit. The best part - electrical outlets! Definitely a luxury when camping. However, we did rough it. We only used the outlets to hang out some tube lights to add some ambiance to our little camp. I didn't sleep much that night as I was really freaked out by the thought of bears invading our camp. We were told at check-in that they had 50% more bears this year. Also, since it was near winter, the bears were becoming way more aggressive in finding food sources. This meant that there were a lot more roaming around the camps at night. So I kept waking up to every little sound the entire night. Good thing we were in bed by 9pm every night! We would get so wiped out.
Friday:
Woke up and made pancakes and made sandwiches for our lunch on the trail. We headed to the Yosemite Falls trail. A 3.5 mile trail that is a bitch to climb! We only made it a mile up to Columbia Rock, which offers amazing views of Half Dome and the valley. The trail up to Columbia Rock is a steep and strenuous switchback. My worst fears were realized as a hyperventilated twice going up this trail. I am WAY out of shape! But I knew that. We were too afraid to continue on, and the clouds were becoming darker, so we decided to head back down and back to camp. I'm sure some of the guys wanted to keep going, but they were nice enough not give me shit for slowing them down. We were all pretty wiped after the hike so we just hung out at the camp for the rest of the day. Ended the night with 2 rounds of Kings Cup before passing out [almost drunk!]. But Yosemite is magical. No one ever woke up with a hangover.
Saturday:
Had rain off and on all day. During a morning break in the rain we headed out to Mariposa Grove to see the Giant Sequoias. As we were getting ready to leave the Grove when the skies opened up and it started to pour rain and then hail. Everything turned white in about 5 seconds from all the hail. It was awesome. We headed back to our camp. After about an hour, the rain cleared and we took advantage and headed back out for a short hike. We took the free Yosemite Valley shuttle to the Mirror Lake hike [2 miles round trip]. Unfortunately, Mirror Lake is a seasonal lake and it was all dried up. So we just saw a lot of sand and a cloud covered half dome. Rained some more as we headed back to camp, and at this point we began to worry about dinner. You see we were really roughing it and did not take a propane stove or a small charcoal grill. The camp fire pit was our only source of heat and fire. Rain was literally damping our dinner plans. Luckily the rain stopped long enough to allow us to start a fire and start cooking! We actually finished cooking in the rain with umbrellas. But we made it work!
Sunday:
We were up early and packing up all our junk. We left Yosemite at 9am. Tired and dirty....we were all ready to leave. Btw - our camp had showers....but it was 2 effing cold! So 2 days without a shower isn't too bad....right? Ok....2.5 days. So gross....I know.... I felt it.
We were all extremely happy with our trip and would stay at the Housekeeping camp again. But I think next time we'll go the cabin route. :) Seriously hope we can make this a yearly trip.

Yosemite Trip Recap

Busy Bee

Tomorrow we leave for our 4 day trip to Yosemite National Park ["we" as in the hubby & I, my brother, sister, her boyfriend, co-worker cousin chris, cousin tony, & my bff mario]. I am super excited to get out of town and into the wilderness. But sorta nervous too. I've camped twice before, but with experienced people, and never with my inexperienced family. That makes me the "experienced" one. Scary! Guess i'll embrace it. I'm just glad the family is finally up for some camping. We never were the camping kind. I guess our Mexican parents never really got the point. Back when I was in high school we took a family trip to Yosemite [with stops in Lake Tahoe, Reno, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon]. My parents rented the biggest most awesome cabin ever. They never even gave camping a thought. Those are the kind of wilderness trips we took. In college, I had my first and second camping experience and loved it! The first was at a hot beach and the second at a cold & windy lake. Both equally fun. It was then that I began to look back and wish that our family had been the camping type. So maybe this is the beginning of something. I certainly plan to do it with my own family in the future.
Well ladies and gents, rain and possibly snow are in the forecast for our trip. Wish us luck that we don't freeze out there! Many many many pictures will be shared next week. Until then....stay cool [and warm] and dry this weekend.
SIDE NOTE
If stupid sprint decides to grace us with it's presence while in the Yosemite Valley, I will send updates to twitter, which you can read on the upper right hand corner of my blog. So feel free to check back daily to see what we're up to!

Reason #4373699 Why I Luv Kanye West
In case you didn't catch Kanye on the Ellen Degeneres Show on Friday - here's his interview explaining why he's angry at Mtv. I think he makes some great points about everything. And no matter what [even if he is whiny bitch] the man can put on a damn good performance!
Here's the second part of the interview with Kanye's performance of "Stronger." If anything, just watch it to see the middle-aged ladies gettin' down with Kanye. I luv it!
And since it's all Kanye all day [or at least it seems that way] - here he is at the Emmy's last night.
* I have another video from that same Ellen show that I wanna post, but I'll save something for YouTube Tuesday. ;o) And stay tuned for the weekend Rundown.

Looking towards the future
Yesterday I had a doctors appointment to check on my healing from the miscarriage surgery [D&C]. Everything looks great and I was given the O.K. to resume normal activities. I was really happy to get this news as I have been aching to start exercising again. And literally aching as any type of activity [such as going up a long flight of stairs] gets me winded and sore. I am especially looking forward to playing soccer again [twice a week with family and friends]. I missed it so much, and I have some new cleats that need breaking in. But I also need to do A LOT of walking this week. We are heading up to Yosemite next Thursday [for 4 days] and I am very worried about how outta shape I am and how much hiking we're gonna be doing. So I plan to take these next 5 days to ease myself [especially my legs and lungs] back into shape. Well....not back into shape, but back into walking a few miles without getting tired and winded.
As for this weekend, not much on the plate. I want to take these next few days to get some shit together in my life, and catch up on many tasks that were pushed aside during this pregnancy debacle.
Have a good one!

Reason #4372648 why I love Kanye West
Yes - just like everyone else he annoys me when he bitches about not getting enough attention. But there are many other aspects of this artist that i love. For example - West studied fine art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago on scholarship! This guy is
smart & cultured! I recently came across an article at www.interiordesign.net that featured some awesome art work in Kanye's home. I also learned that Mr. West loves interior design. He therefore has decorated his home in a perfect minimalist fashion. And as the article states, his homes resembles nothing of what you would see on Mtv Cribs. Check out the article and click on the sideshow to see more.
I think I'll be swinging by Target to pick up his new album today. That should make my day happier.
[Insert Witty Title Here]
Yesterday was Tuesday....and therefore YouTube Tuesday, but there were other more important things to focus on. However, in honor of YouTube Tuesday I'd like to share a movie trailer with you. Fox Searchlight Pictures brings us Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna). A film about a young Mexican boy that sets out to join his mother in America, after his grandmmother dies. Being the Sap that I am....I totally teared up with this trailer. The trailer says "coming soon" but I've read on it has a 3/21/08 release date. Since there aren't any embeded codes, you'll have to click on the link to see the trailer.
Under the Same Moon - Trailer
*Thanks to twitter friend dayanza for the link.In other news, football season is underway and this makes me happy. Yes, I love football. I can sit at home alone on a Sunday and watch a few games. I must mention how horrible it is to hear the news of Buffalo Bill's Tight End Kevin Everett. To get injured in the first game of the season and most likely never be able to walk again. It's heart-breaking and my thoughts go out to his family. He was on one of my Fantasy football teams.
I just heard an update that doctors are optimistic that he will regain movement and there a chance he could lead a normal life! That is such great news. I bet everyone is letting out a sigh of relief. Read the story here.

9/11 - 6 years later...
As so many others are doing today, I too will take a minute to remember all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. I think everyone should take a moment to reflect.
I found the picture below, of 9/11 victims, on a random blog by doing a Google search for 9/11. Click the image for a larger view.
Let's keep on remembering and keep on talking about it - it is our duty. This is our history and we are the lucky batch to have lived through it.

Food Porn
Food porn aside - Here's the Weekend Rundown.
FRIDAY

SATURDAY
The hubby conned me into taking him to work at 8am. I prefer to sleep in Saturdays, especially when I've been up past midnight the night before. The effing GAP, once again, decided to hold off on paying their employee monthly parking passes. So of course G had been paying his own parking for the 2nd month [still waiting for that reimbursement]. But, being the loving wife that I am, I agreed to drop him off and pick him up. Shockingly, this was the best idea. I ended up heading to Starbucks for some morning crack. It was such a nice morning that I decided to grab the LA Times and sit outside. I had not had time like that to myself in quite a while. I think I sat out there for about 2 hours before heading off to complete my errands for the day.
at 5pm I picked up G and we headed off to a baptism celebration out in Chino. [I am so over the Saturday afternoon 210 FWY traffic.] We had a great time at the baptism. There was tons of liquor that resulted in many laughs. As always, the Mexicans were the last to leave at around 11:30pm....when I was sober enough to drive the rest of the drunks who managed to polish off 3.5 bottles of wine, at least 2 cases of beer, and half a bottle of patron. Good times.
SUNDAY

I then headed home where I did a mixture of cleaning, watching football, and taking a nap. I then picked up the hubs and we headed to my moms to watch the VMA's on directTV. This was great because this meant we were home by 9pm. And don't even get me started on the VMA's. I vowed not to discuss celebrity trash, but I'll make an exception. Some thoughts:
- Props to JT for challenging Mtv to play music videos.
- Britney is a disaster and needs to stop & take care of her kids.
- I <3 Kanye, but he needs to stop whining.
- Chris Brown is assome.
- Rhianna deserved her wins.
- Rock is going downhill.
- The award show resembled the New Years eve show with random performances in different areas.
- The VMA's are going downhill.
That's enough of my whining.

Ready, Set , Go!
I have so much that I've been wanting to blog about and have had no time. And this time I even have pictures to share. I don't know how I'm gonna sort this out, but I'm gonna go all the way back to the weekend and share with you what I've been up to.
Friday & Saturday
The night started off with dinner at Wokcano for my cousin's b-day. It was hotter than hell in their outdoor patio, but we managed to stay semi-close-to-cool with lots of Stella's. No need to say more so enjoy the pictures below.

The road trip consisted of my brother, cousin, BFF and myself. My brother had agreed to meet up with a few other mini cooper owners. We met up with 3 other minis in Azusa, and then we all headed out to Cabazon to meet up with 3 other mini owners. From there we beelined it to Joshua Tree.
We arrived around 3am, found an open area with some picnic tables and just hung out and waited out till the 4:30am when the meteor shower was to peak. Unfortunately, the shower was more of a sporadic sprinkle. In a 2 hour period we saw about 20+ meteors. But all big and nice nonetheless.
The mini owners left us shortly after 4:30am, but we stuck around for another 15 min. That's when the coyotes woke up and started howling all around us. Scary times so we peaced out. On our way back we made a quick stop at the Cabazon Dinosaurs. I hadn't stopped here since I was a kid. It was a beautiful time to see them. Eyes & mouth still glowing green, just as the sun was beginning to rise.
After a few pictures, we continued our drive home. Unfortunately, I had to make a quick appearance at work before 7am [made it to work at 7:15am]. After my work detour we headed over to Andy's Coffee Shop for breakfast. Great cheap food just down the street from PCC.
By the time we were all ready to finally get some sleep it was already around 80 degrees outside. It was going to be another 100+ day. I knew our apt. would be nasty hot and the hubby had already headed off to work, so I opted to get some z's at my mom's air conditioned home.

Sunday

My cousin had a 21st b-day party that we attended. Great people, food, and drinks.
Monday
Swung my my MIL's home. Hung out by a pool [at my cousin Jessica's house], trying to stay cool. Left shortly after they had a power outage [damn rolling black-outs].
Overall, exciting weekend. This week has been great too, mostly due to the drop in temps. Loving this mildly warm weather! Can't wait for summer to be over!
On the agenda for the weekend:
- dinner tonight with my assome friend A
- Baptism in Chino tomorrow
- Lazy Sunday that should be spent working on the prototype invite for my sister-in-law's 15ñera. That means a trip to Paper Source! Woo-hoo!
Have a fab weekend everyone! And I promise to be a better blogger next week.

August in Review
I just realized it's been over a week since my last post. My apologies. But I promise...I have a good excuse.
August 2007 hasn't been the best month for me. Well...for me and the hubby. This month has been filled with extreme highs and extreme lows. I don't need to get into everything, but since this is my space....my place to post my thoughts...I will share now. I was afraid of opening myself up so much to the public and being left vulnerable. But now that things are said and done I can post a piece of me that's a bit more personal.
So here's the abridged version.
In mid July, G and I found out we would soon be becoming 3. I was pregnant. Fast forward to my first prenatal appt. in August. We come to find out I was miscarrying. There hadn't been much growth and no baby could be detected in the ultrasound. In the end this came to be medically referred to as a blighted ovum. The pregnancy stopped around the 3rd or 4th week. But G & I spent 8 weeks living life like I was pregnant. We bought all the books, began to look forward to our new future, and even told a few close relatives and friends. It was a big blow. We were suddenly vaulted from being extremely happy to the extreme sadness associated with grieving a loss. The last 3 weeks have been emotionally draining. From more blood tests and doctors appt's to figure out of it was a loss, to finally going to the hospital [this Monday at what would have been 10 weeks of pregnancy] and having outpatient surgery to clean out my uterus. Life threw us a curve ball when I unexpectedly became pregnant. But we embraced it like a planned pregnancy. And then the 2nd curve ball....taking everything away.
Such a loss is something you have to go thru to know just how hard it is. We spent the month secretly grieving and putting on a happy face to the rest of the world. I constantly wanted to post about all this. So I ended up making a private blog that I named baby Geefunk. This blog has become my therapy. The blog starts at the beginning and I continue to update it. Feel free to browse some of my posts if you'd like more in depth details as to what has happened.
At this point I am only hoping for an easier September. One filled with more good times than bad times. I thought posting would be a good idea since I have found that blogs that post about such events have really helped me thru. So I can only hope to someday help someone else that is going through the same thing. It's tough...and sometimes it's too much to get through on your own. Everything that has happened to date has thrown my head for a loop and I've felt like I've been having an out of body experience. I can't seem to focus on much these days. I'm really hoping that September brings m brain back and I can get my shit together again.
So a day early, I raise my glass to September. Bring me a good month. I need a break.

Effing Video
Apparently the video I posted yesterday no longer works. Asswipes. I guess I'll go ahead and post another today since I happen to come across 2 interesting video's. Happy Hump Day.
The first is a hacked Super Mario Bro.'s level that can only be passed if you DO NOT touch your keypad. CRAZY! Is it sad I was tense will watching the video [thinking it wasn't gonna work]?
The next video shows the skills a kid has playing his violin. I think this is really cool, especially towards the end. Reminds me of that chick that has played with Kanye West, but never made it far on her own.

YouTube Tuesday
I had a hard time finding something to post today. I usually have a nice collection of video's on reserve, but for some reason none seems appealing today. So anyway....I cam across a preview of Kanye West's new album. He previewed 2 tracks on a radio show. Check it out if you're a fan, cause you know I'm a huge fan.
[I'll have to show ya'll my Kanye autograph that my BFF Mario got for me when he spotted Kanye at a Pasadena Target. Personalized to "geefunk" and everything. Kanye is a cool cat.]

WEEKEND RUNDOWN
Get ready for another hot day party people. August is the dreaded hottest month. Let's get to the rundown.
FRIDAY
I had a lovely relaxing evening with some good peeps and hitting the bottle. The wine bottle that is. It had been too long since I had a drink. But before the we had a great dinner at Ichima [had been almost 50 days since I had sushi!]. Obviously Friday was a day of getting back to my usual activities.
SATURDAY
After a really late night, G and I ended up passing out at my mom's empty air conditioned house. G had to work early and I stayed around since I had my own car. Went home around 1pm to get ready for a BBQ at the Gerlach residence. Was really dreading going to my apt. on the equator to shower. Too fucken hot in that place. and our lame ass wall A/C does shit in terms of cooling. But I made it worked. My friend M picked me up and we headed to A's house for a bit of a "catching up" pre-party. A & I hadn't seen M in forever! Once it was cool enough to stay outside for more than 3 minutes, we then headed over to the BBQ. More good times were had with great tacos and beer. [I should really start taking pictures]
SUNDAY
Recovery day. The hubs and I headed to Denny's for breakfast. Another place we hadn't been to in forever! The place we go to got a face lift, which we liked. Pancakes still tastes great. We then spent the afternoon at my moms seeing vacation pics [they just returned from Ixtapa, MX] and hearing stories that made me jealous I opted out of the family vacation this year. Who doesn't want to hang out in a presidential suite with this view for a whole week?

Cheers to great week ahead! I know I'll have a slightly better one since the boss man is on vacay for the week! Woot woot!

Mermaids Smoking Seaweed
I can't decide if I like the new HBO series "Flight of the Conchords." But I can't get this mermaid song outta my head! Have a listen -
In other news - my obsession with cupcakes continues. I found a new toy that I need to go buy ASAP! It's a 2-part cake pan that makes a cake in the shape of a cupcake! I fucken love this thing.
You want it too? Get it at Sur La Table.
Happy friday party people. I hope to have a not too rough weekend and I hope to attend a much need bbq with some friends. Stay cool!

Changes
Been going through a lot of crappy shit. Will be sharing in the coming days. But for now check out my new layout. I have been wanting a 3 column layout since the beginning. Let me know what you all think.

Sick
My head hurts and I'm home sick. ['m actually at my moms hijacking the A/C since they're on vacay.] I therefore have nothing interesting to say today. I had a ruff weekend that consisted of me and a bed. Not as fun as it sounds. The only thing I'm looking forward to is the premiere of The Hills tonight.
But tomorrow is You Tube Tuesday so you can count on something interesting then.

Have I told you...lately...that I love you....
Oh John Mayer....how I heart thee....
John Mayer Sings Chocolate Rain
Posted Aug 03, 2007John Mayer drops by the Best Week Ever studio to give a heartfelt rendition of his new favorite song.
I'm sure by now you have all heard the You Tube video that has become an overnight hit. Tay Zonday's "Chocolate Rain" has even been on featured on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Of course KROQ was on his jock this morning and led me to the wonderful John Mayer Remix. Click here to see the original.
You Tube Tuesday - on a Friday
Happy Friday Bitches! The weekend is once again upon us. I'm happy that this was the shortest work week ever! Woot woot! No crazy plans. Just taking it easy and cleaning up since we were on vacay. Tomorrow morning I'm driving the parentals to the airport. Lucky asses are leaving for a week to Ixtapa, Mexico. Wish I was going to chill on a beach for a week. Oh well....
Since I was on vacay Tuesday and didn't have a chance to post a video, I'll do so today. Enjoy and pass it on!
Side note - I am so addicted to these types of shows! I love watching the Most Extreme Elimination Challenge [now called MXC]. Best show ever!!!! I think it still airs on Spike TV. Check it out if you're ever looking for something to watch Saturday afternoons.

I'm back!
Not so excited to be back at work today, but happy that I had an extra day off to relax before heading back. I headed over to my cousin Jessica's pool with my sister. Very relaxing afternoon. I felt sorta crappy our last day in Seattle. Thought I was getting sick. Actually felt really shitty on the plane ride back, but I'm feeling much better after lots of R&R yesterday. I don't think my boss would appreciate me taking sick time after vacation.
In the meantime the in between time....let me tell you why i heart Pearl Jam so much. Actually, I just show you.

Seattle Check In
We're in Seattle - visiting my cousin V & family! Just wanted to take a minute to let you party people know that I won't be updating until I return to work on Thursday. BUT....fear not...you won't have to wait until then to hear about all the great things we'll be doing. I will be sending updates to my Twitter [in the left hand column there] so feel free to check back and see what's on my Twitter.
Quick Seattle update - We got in late last night. Smooth quick flight. Weather is perfect! For us....since it's a very welcomed break from the the Cali heat! A bit overcast today but so far no chances of rain...but wait....it's Seattle so there doesn't have to be chances for it to rain. Wish us luck that the rain stays away till we leave! What's on the agenda so far? Dinner at the Space Needle tonight [my cousin's husband is the executive chef there] & a day of baseball tomorrow with the Mariners taking on The Red Sox [with tons of other activities in between]. I'll have tons of pictures to share when we get back.
Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Personality Type
ISTP
According to the site:
ISTPs are adventurous and independent. They like to figure out how things work. They have great mechanical and technical skills. They live in the "here and now" which makes them adaptable and spontaneous. They like to keep busy and are action-oriented. ISTPs thrive on new and exciting situations.
It also says that as an ISTP my primary function is introverted thinking. I feel that this is true now. In the last few years I have definitely become more introverted and less extroverted. I don't like to go out and spend time making new friends or trying to keep old friendships alive. If it happens, good....if not then fine. I rather focus on the people in my life now. As far as the whole "adventurous and independent," I must say it's true....but something else that is diminishing with time and I am holding onto with all my might. I don't know about the "action-oriented." More like I wish....I'm sorta boring these days.
I also took the Multiple Intelligences test, and I must agree with this one. I love all things musical and hate math with a passion. lol
Interesting to find this stuff out. But let me tell you....some internet test isn't gonna run my life now. Take you're own test here.
