YouTube Tuesday

I'm introducing a new weekly segment to the blog. As the title of this post tells you it's to be called "YouTube Tuesday." I've been posting videos every now and then that seem to interest a lot of my viewers [all 4 of you], so now I've decided to make it a weekly thing. So let me get on with it.

I found this video about a week ago. A guy attempted to visit every Starbucks in Manhattan in 1 day. It's pretty interesting. Some people are just plain crazy. He has a website and everything.

Taking it back...way back...

I found a video today from last summer in Tepetongo, Zacatecas. This is the town in Mexico where my mom is from. We use to spend every summer there from middle school thru high school. I was young and my summers were spent as if i had been locked up in a cellar back in the states. My cousins and I went wild. Booze, boys, parties till the crack of dawn....that was summer. Some of the best times of my life with the best memories. Then we got back to the states and it was like nothing. We resumed our boring lives with limited social events "por que todavia no tienes quince años." But in Mexico, they let you run wild...because its ok when you're with family! LOL Those were the days. Can't believe it. It's been so long since I've been back that I don't even recognize 99% of the faces in this video. But I do see my sister taking good care of the torch and breaking it down on the dance floor! Check it out -

As for the weekend -

It was pretty chill. Didn't melt on Saturday in Palmdale as thought. There was a strong breeze that helped keep the heat at bay. Had a great time seeing one of my BFFs & cute ass Julian! This kid is only 2 yrs old and knows exactly who Russel Martin from the LA Dodgers is and cheers for him every time he comes up to bat. Too cute. I mean how many 2 yr olds do you know that can sit through an entire Dodgers game?!?!?! I can't even do that!

Sunday I stayed home and did some cleaning and lounging. I watched Factory Girl & The Dead Girl. I really really enjoyed the first film. It was such a tragic story that totally sucked me in. I had no idea. As for the second flick - I was all into it and then it ended. Like all of a sudden outta nowhere it was over. All I could say was "WTF?" The ending sucked so now I hate the film.

Tap is the new Bottled?

According to CNN Aquafina is making a slight change to their labels clarifying where they get their water from - the Tap. This coming after San Francisco's mayor banned city employees from using city funds to buy bottled water when tap water is available. New York city is also promoting their Tap Water in a campaign called "The Tap Project."

Surprised? I sorta am. I mean I have a bottle of Aquafina sitting in front of me and I like the flavor. I would have expected something like this from Arrowhead who's water clearly tastes like tap [IMHO]. I guess it's a good thing. I like tap water. I still can't bring myself to drink from the faucet even though I have been known to occasionally do so in the early morning hours [sometimes the kitchen is just too far].

Inspiration

Blogging is tough business. I feel a constant need to post something witty and funny and interesting. Lately I haven't felt any of that. I have been finding it hard to post. I think I just have so much on my mind. But I don't even want to bore my readers with my troubles! All I can think about is my upcoming vacay to Seattle to visit my cousin V and her hubby and cute ass Sofia. Can't wait. The hubs and I have never been to the emerald city, so we're very much looking forward to it. Especially since there was a point in time when we seriously considered moving out there when V's hubby offered my hubby a job. We didn't care we had never been to the city let alone the state. We were ready for a change. Well life threw us a curve ball and we got a different change. Funny how things happen. Have any of you out there ever made a change on a whim? Just sounded good and took a chance? Whether it be a job change, new city, school, or life event. I think chances like these come across at various points in our lives. Everyone has em. But only a few jump on them. Sometimes I sit and wish I jumped on it faster. I was really looking for a change, and well.....we got it. Just not what I was thinking.

Sorry this post is clouded with secrecy. But my secret is slowly evolving and I'm not ready to share until there's something concrete to show for it. Bare with me people.

Testing my limits

Oh starbucks.....why must you keep testing my loyalty thru price increases? If you're gonna raise prices again, at least finally add my Lactaid milk to your options.

WEEKEND RUNDOWN

Happy humid Monday party people. Hope everyone had a fab weekend. I know I did!

FRIDAY
Pretty chill. Dinner at the parentals casa and then just hung out for a while. Had some banging tostadas de lomo. Watched tv with my bro and knocked out. So that about sums up the evening.....boring....i know.

SATURDAY
Caught up on some much needed sleep and had a very very lazy afternoon. G & I then got ready and heady out to Carpinteria for my college friend's wedding. Thank gawd this time we got very little traffic and did not take 4 hours like last time. But at about Camerillo a crazy fog began to come in from the ocean. Sure enough we got up to my friends parent's house and the fog was pretty dense. We made it with about 10 minutes to spare before the ceremony. Talk about cutting it close.

The wedding took place at her parent's home. Beautiful home in the hills with a fantastic ocean view. The ceremony took place under 2 beautiful old trees in the front of the house and then the reception was in the backyard which is huge!!! The house was recently remodeled and looked fantabulous! The backyard could have easily fit another hundred guests. But they kept it intimate to just close friends and family. The color scheme of green, ivory, and black look way better than I could have imagined [I secretly think V has been lurking on the knot at knottie bios!] . The flowers were beautiful [ivory & green], the delicious organic [and I think vegan because it tasted just like the vegan cupcakes I made] chocolate cake, and the fab local band. Great times were had all around. G and I were honored to take part at such a wonderful evening. We didn't even mind the cold and fog we weren't prepared for.

Here are some cell phones pix of the wedding. Yes....smart me left my camera at work, so please excuse the grainy pics.

*** Congrats V & R! The new Mr. & Mrs. U! I was there before R and I couldn't wish for a more perfect man for V. So happy you two found each other! Welcome to the married club!

SUNDAY
G & I made it home around midnight from the wedding, but we still managed to wake up early. Shocker! Since we were awake we took advantage and went out for breakfast at my fav local organic eatery Le Pain Quotidien. mozzarella, and pesto sandwich, which came in 4 open faced pieces. It was very yummy! Since I had been craving their Smoked Salmon Omelette and the apricot jam. I made sure to buy some organic apricot jam this time. G had the turkey,we were already in Old Town we took advantage and did some shopping. Got a cute outfit at Forever21! Guess the hubby wasn't ready to go home because he then miraculously suggested we catch a matinée. We agreed on Harry Potter and headed over to Paseo to catch a noon showing. HP was good, but it wasn't great. I have enjoyed previous films a lot more. It was pretty dark, but a good time overall. I think it was the ending that I didn't like. Coulda been better. We then headed over to Borders to get a book we couldn't find at Barnes & Noble. After that we headed over my MIL's b-day dinner. And boy was it H-O-T hot! We called it an early day after that.

As the world turns......

I'm at a loss as to what to post today. My draft has already been "autosaved" so i must continue with it and post something for today. What to say.....any bloggers out there ever at a loss?

I have the US Weekly magazine in front of me and Hillary Duff's slammin' body is mocking me. She looks so amazing these days. Props for her. Another woman looking great these days is Mandy Moore. She's on the cover of my InStyle mag and looks fabulous. Think I wanna get my hair colored like her's at my August appt. Mine's just a bit darker right now. Although it Mandy's looks a little reddish in this pic. Oh yeah - that's another thing. Me and celebrities....we're on a first name basis. Yeah my cousin always makes fun of me because I seem to know everything, so she in turn says that celebrities are my "friends." And since we're "friends" we can use first names. Although these days I'm not so in touch with my "friends." Don't spend as much time reading tabloid trash or browsing trashy blogs. But I am glad I have better "real life" drama occupying my life now. My own drama.

As for tonight, I have 3 movies waiting for me at home. Sideways [gotta love $5.50 movies at Target!], Premonition [better not suck], and Half Nelson. So I have enough to keep me company. I have a feeling I'll only get through 2. Looking forward to staying in tonight.

Wine + Music + Friends = Good Times!

Just finished doing 3 loads of laundry and trying to figure out what to have for a late lunch. I'm too hungry to just wait for dinner. I'm taking advantage of this wireless signal that has made it into our home. I think this is my first weekend post ever! A first indeed.

Good times yesterday. My day started with a much needed haircut. Chopped off the dry ends, about 4 inches, and re-layered it. We then headed off to the LA Zoo lot to meet up with our peeps for the shuttle. There were about 13 of us on the shuttle, but a total of 30-something once we got to our seats at the bowl. Everyone brought great food. We were asked to take a bottle of wine and appetizers, and everyone came through with yummy food. From many types of quiche, wraps, dips, to prosciutto wrapped asparagus and mozzarella/basil/tomato bites. We filled up. Then the show began. We heard some Robin Hood, Gone with the Wind, Superman, Catch me if You Can, Harry Potter, and the grand finale movie theme from Star Wars. It was awesome when all the Star Wars freaks busted out their light sabers. We left after the second encore to face the dreaded crowds herding back to the buses and cars. Made it home about 12:30am, but was a bit too tipsy *blushing* so the hubs & I headed to Carrow's [everyone else was either too sober or too drunk to join us] down the street. After struggling to stay awake thru my breakfast, we finally went home where I passed out in 5 seconds. Poor G had to work at 7am today. And he has another musical night ahead of him. Hopefully he can sneak in a power nap before we leave.

I'll post pictures tomorrow [my stolen connection is too slow to upload now] and I'll give a review of tonights show. Stay cool and have a great Sunday!

Happy Friday the 13th!

Don't step on a crack!

Friday the 13th takes me back to the grammer school days. Boys had cooties. If you touch a boy today he'd be your boyfriend till the next Friday the 13th. LOL yeah.....stupid kids.....it wasn't fun being pushed into booger face and thereby making him my new BF. Kids can be so cruel.

Well it's Friday and I just got paid. We have a very exciting weekend ahead filled with lots of music and booze. LOVE IT! Tomorrow night we will be attending a big group outing to the Hollywood bowl to check out John Williams: Maestro of the Movies. Good times with good peeps and great food & wine. Then Sunday [hopefully we won't be too hungover] we go back for Cafe Tacuba [Mexico city based band] with opener Groove Armada. Can't wait for that. Always been a fan of both.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Walk It Out, Ladies!

This is tight! These two are really meant to be. I love coming across things like this.

The Way I Are

I just finished the weekend rundown post, but it posted as Monday since I had saved it as a draft on Monday. So now I have to post for today. But I feel out of ideas. Maybe I'll come up with something later today. In the meantime, here's yesterdays recap.

TUESDAY

Still sucks - drama at work...made time go by less slow [cannot discuss for legal reasons]. Then headed to Victory Park for our Tues/Thurs soccer nights. Played really hard and felt really good.

There are some good things about today:

- It's Hump Day!
- Mexico plays today [mom, please call with dinner invitation...thanks]
- G gets paid today so we are not broke anymore! [sad.....i know....]
- 2 more days till I get paid!
- 3 more days till our Hollywood Bowl weekend begins [Sat & Sun]
- 3 more days until I get a long over due haircut
- We're finally getting cable! [but not today]
- Found out Season 3 of The Hills starts Aug. 13th! Check the preview here.
- Glad I didn't get an iphone because Apple is already working on a new model [cheaper & smaller]. Read for yourself.
- I didn't have to kill any ants in our kitchen this morning!

***The title of this post refers to Timberland's latest hit. It has been stuck in my head since last week. Diggin' it.

WEEKEND RUNDOWN [and some]

Happy Monday internet friends. Hope you all had a fabulous weekend. My weekend was pretty alright. Let's begin...

FRIDAY

I was sick. Been dealing with bizarro stomach pains. Sharp pain that comes and goes...sorta like contractions. All over my mid-section, but the sharp pain is mostly focused on my upper stomach area. No se. I stopped caffeine once again and that helped. Lighter meals helped too. I slept it off on so our evening was boring. BUT - we did watch the "Spring Dance" episode from 90210! But I think the season finale was one of the best I've seen. Making us believe the Walsh Family was moving back to Minneapolis, fooled me the first time around! Great episode. Now I have to go buy recently releases Season 2!

SATURDAY

After having to convince G to go to the beach, we finally made it out around 1pm along with a few cousins & friends. Went out to Bolsa Chica where my sister was already at. It was packed! Beautiful day, but it was already getting very very windy by the time we arrived. Water was surprisingly clean and blue and not too cold. Got some color, but definitely not enough. Good time were had by all. Headed back, we all grabbed dinner at my other fav Pasadena spot - TOPS. Love me a great turkey burger. Then we headed home and showered. We ended the night at a friends house where I had my first Flamin' Dr.Pepper shot. That shit is killer! It creeps up on you...good stuff though. And it does taste like Dr.Pepper.

SUNDAY

Got up at the ungodly Sunday hour of 9am to do 3 loads of laundry before heading out to my parents house for the Mexico game and chicharones, carnitas, and micheladas. Best artery clogging food ever. Better than pastrami. Managed to take care of another 3 loads of laundry at my parents house during the game. Good times.

We then headed out to Paseo Colorado to see Transformers. I really really liked this movie. I thought it was great. I was sooo hesitant to watch this movie even though I enjoyed the cartoons as a kid. Guess I'm just tired up sorry remakes. But this......takes the cake. Best summer action film hands down. In my opinion, Shia LaBeouf [who I'm not much of a fan of] was a perfect cast in this role. He really can dish the cheesy lines along with the serious demanding lines. There were many many cheesy scenes in this film [why was Miss Australian-Code-Breaker-Scientist wearing 4 inch heels throughout the film? Why do I not believe Meagan Fox is in high school], but it worked. And the special effects were great. Everyone I've talked to really enjoyed the film. I would definitely see this film again.

MONDAY

Sucks - work...then some deep cleaning of the apt because I thought my mom was coming over [aka Danny Tanner with the white glove]. She didn't....opened up a bottle of wine...watched some SATC and passed out. I did have to stop drinking when I realized G kept filling my glass without asking. Think he was trying to liquor me up?

***Thanks cat for the yummy wine.

Sick

I'm at work and sick. I therefore do not feel like saying much. 1 more hour and i'm out! Sucks to be sick just before the weekend.

If I feel better soon....these are our weekend options:

  • Beach
  • Verdugo Hills Hike (yes cat, i'm considering it)
  • Transformers
  • Lots of laundry
  • Alcohol induced coma (kidding)
We'll see what happens.

PS
The asshole ants have made a comeback. We still get the occasional ant in the kitchen, but the fuckers have now set up camp in the bedroom, and might even be drafting a constitution. There were so many last night [along the wall by the window] that I had to bust out the vacuum to suck them up! I HATE ANTS!

Sucky Day-After-A-Weekday-Holiday

I thought today was gonna be a good day when I finally was able to remove a year old knot from my favorite necklace. I was wrong....
Today is just a sorry day overall. A midweek holiday to throw you off. Had a great time at Brookside park with the family, and to have to come back to work today...and have to do work. Sucks. Doesn't help that being so freakin busy means that my apt. is falling apart. I can only multi-task so much. If only my insomnia would return so I can be productive in the night hours instead of wasting it away on sleep. And now my car is getting in on the action too. My poor baby desperately needs a car wash [accidentally turned on my wipers this morning thus smearing the dirt and making it even harder to see out of my windshield] and a little light reminds me every time i turn on my car that it's time for service. A big grocery store trip is due since we're running very very low on food.

This is stressing me out. My eye is twitching, I'm clenching my teeth [my jaw hurts like a bitch!], and my stomach hurts. I was looking forward to releasing some stress at soccer today. Looking more like I'll be home cleaning instead. Can't wait for this week to be over.

Here are some pics from the park:

Independence Day

The day Will Smith defeated the Aliens.....good times....

Short post today - here's wishing everyone has a safe and happy holiday. I could be sarcastic and say something like....Happy Taking Land By Force Day.....but I know we all look forward to a day off to be spent with our families just hanging out. So Happy Hump Day! Midweek holidays don't come along that often.

Stay safe and cool. Enjoy some great firework shows from a safe distance. And remember everyone out there still fighting for our "independence."

*this one's for the homies...*

I have a Twitter. Check me out. Cause I know you are all DYING to know what I think about when I'm not blogging. Gawd it feels great when you think the world revolves around you.

Inferno

OMG! I can't believe I failed to mention the horrible incident that happened to me at Ichima on Sunday night!

***Disclaimer - this has nothing to do with the services or goods provided by Ichima. This is dumb human luck that happened to occur at a restaurant.

There we were....happily enjoying our sashimi and rolls. G had decided to get a chicken teriyaki plate this time because he was "really hungry" and wanted to fill up [still waiting for the day G orders something other than a mexican roll or eel roll]. I helped myself to the salad that came with G's plate. There I was happily enjoying my meal when suddenly I feel a sharp burning sensation in my mouth that quickly transfers to my entire face! I had just put another piece of lettuce in my mouth [didn't even chew it] and was confused my the pain I was enduring. Could it be the ginger dressing? - I quickly thought...too much on one piece of lettuce, maybe? No....I cautiously tried to bite down on the lettuce when I immediately felt that chalky, grainy texture that is....don don DON!!! WASABI! Holy mother of all things green! My face turned bright red and my eyes teared up [I even managed to have flashback of the "Jackass" wasabi snorting episode]. I made a conscious effort not to inhale as I could feel the burn traveling up my nose. I quickly spit everything out as best I could [mind you this all happened in about 5 seconds time and everyone at our table was looking at me in utter amusement not knowing what the hell was going on]. I had manage to get some wasasbi on my face as i spit it out on to my napkin, which quickly began to burn the skin on my face [i thought my face would be scarred - thats how bad it burned]. As I sucked down the water at our table in all 2 seconds to cool the inferno that was my mouth, I was finally able to speak and clue everyone in on the reason for my freak show. The the little wasabi fucker [although nothing is little in wasabi land] was hiding under a piece of lettuce. I had managed to pick up the lettuce with the wasabi camouflaged underneath.

This has been one of the single worst restaurant experiences in my life. Not Ichima's fault by any means of course, but just an overall downer [even beats out the time I threw up at a taco joint in Ensenada after seeing my friend [way beyond drunk] throw up on her plate - i mean.....what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico ;o)]. How ever I could not stop laughing after the fire was out. It was pretty funny...and I always am the first to laugh at myself. And let me say I do eat some wasabi. I do put the occasional miniature nugget in my soy sauce for flavor....but never like this. And for those of you out there that have ever followed through with a dare to eat a "chile de arbol" [myself included]....this is nothing like that. Comletely different burn. I couldn't even explain the pain. The wasabi completely overtook all of my senses. That picture on the right - that is exactly the size of the little green monster. Not so good times....

Here are some items I won't be investing in anytime in the future:

WEEKEND RUNDOWN

dang it's hot out today! My little desktop widget tells me it's 91! Summer is officially here. And they say Wednesday the 4th will be the hottest day of the week! Better take some water balloons to the park!

Here's the weekend rundown:

FRIDAY

Friday...i got paid....hmmm....what else. Oh yeah! Had a wonderful sushi dinner with my good friend A. Had the beers like I had wished for - Yum-O! We then hit up target for my last minute gift shopping. Once home, G and I walked down to Gerlach's Liquor for some beverages [vons was closed already]. The plan was to drink, but i was too tired. I did manage to stay awake thru an episode of Beverly Hills 90210. [i'm so excited for the next one because it's the "Spring Dance" episode and you know what happens....with Brenda & Dylan....i'm a goober].

SATURDAY

Headed out early to pic up my sister, quick stop at Target and then we were off to Santa Barbara for my friend Vic's Bridal Shower. This is where the non-fun begins. We left an hour early because I figured we'd get some traffic in the Woodland Hills area, which we did. Unfortunately the damn traffic continued all the way up to 2 miles before our excite in Carpinteria! It took us 4 mother-trucking hours to get there! a trip that yahoo! maps clocked as 1hr 18mins ended up taking 4 effing hours! On top of the 25 mph, 2 hours into the trip my niece got car sick or something and decided to barf! Good thing I was able to move over quickly and exit right away. Found a gas station [ in Thousand Oaks] where we cleaned her up and cleaned the car seat as best as possible [thank gawd nothing hit my car]. Took about 15 min. to convince the child to get back into her car seat [do you blame the kid? i think not...]. Finally tricked her with some gum and we were on our way. [must remember to keep fabreeze in car!] An hour later Natalie was cranky again so we pulled over in Camarillo [yes, it took and hour to get from Thousand Oaks to Camarillo] in search of a starbucks to get her some tea, something that proved to be difficult. Can you believe the only one we found was inside Targe!?! I <3 Target even more everyday. Any whoo....back on the rode we went [probably only like 10 cars behind our original place]. Once the traffic let up we arrived at our destination. Guess what? The shower was over! Not surprised at all...just happy some stragglers were still there and we got to hang with Vic for a bit. hahaha...that rhymed. We stayed about an hour and then headed into downtown SB since my sis had never been there. We stopped at the beach for a while and sank our toes in the sand and water [perfect beach day]. My niece found a new love for the ocean. We then headed over to state street where we ate and did some shopping. We were back on the road at 8pm and home by 9:30pm with a mild migraine. *stay tuned for pictures* SUNDAY Went to work at 5:30am to run the audit, returned home by 7am and went back to sleep until 11am. oh yeah - I can sleep! Did some cleaning up and lots of lounging before G and I headed out to the movies with my bro and some other peeps. We watched Michael Moore's documentary "Sicko." Boy was this a good one. I didn't think it would be that good and was very very pleasantly surprised. I laughed....I cried [I'm a sap]. There is a great line in the movie that sums it all up and got the audience to start applauding in the middle of the film [this has apparently been happening a lot in theaters]. Former British Parliament member Tony Benn said, "If you can find the money to kill people, then you can find the money to help people." That quote along with the start of the closing credits generated much applause. If you get a chance, go see this documentary. It'll make you think and start asking questions.

sicko badge

We capped off the night with sushi [once again] and then headed home to our very own inferno.
